5/24/2023 0 Comments The south side by natalie y moore![]() ![]() In this intelligent and highly important narrative, Chicago-native Natalie Moore shines a light on contemporary segregation on the South Side of Chicago through reported essays, showing the life of these communities through the stories of people who live in them. Chicago is divided equally into black, white, and Latino, each group clustered in their various turfs. Though other cities - including Cleveland, Los Angeles, and Baltimore - can fight over that mantle, it's clear that segregation defines Chicago. ![]() The Manhattan Institute dubs Chicago as one of the most segregated big cities in the country. Yet, swept under the rug is the stench of segregation that compromises Chicago. Daley and Rahm Emanuel have touted and promoted Chicago as a "world class city." The skyscrapers kissing the clouds, the billion-dollar Millennium Park, Michelin-rated restaurants, pristine lake views, fabulous shopping, vibrant theater scene, downtown flower beds and stellar architecture tell one story. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments Bloodline jess lourey true story![]() Jess Lourey: Thank you! Frankie is half-nerd, sometimes brave and sometimes stupid, and just as unsteady in her self-esteem as most of us were at that age. Frankie Jubilee, the protagonist of Jess Lourey’s Litani, is one of my all-time favorite characters, and I never expected to find her in a true-crime-based thriller set in the 80s. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments Every Move by Ellie Marney![]() Unfortunately it's not the quiet weekend she was hoping for with the unexpected company of Mike's old school buddy, the wildly unreliable Harris Derwent.
